Ribeira corresponds to the low part 'Cidade Baixa' of the city, where is the port and the ancient commercial houses.
Natal developed late its port and districts of the low city 'Cidade Baixa' or 'Ribeira'. Its most beautiful architectural example is the theatre 'Alberto Maranhão'. Created in 1898 of neo-classic style, it is a part of the historic and artistic heritage of the RN and has a magnificent hall.
Other place of the city architectural heritage is the 'Casa da Ribeira', an importante cultural place.
